July 6th Friday Day 29

Ended up at Banderas's Bunk house on a tip from one of the locals. We got a 2 bedroom cabin on the river with a kitchen and dining room. We made dinner, took showers, and they let me use their computer. I can't believe it was only a week ago that we were in Montecello on our way to Dolores. So much happens in a day, and a week seems like an eternity. We woke up in our cabin by the Arkansas river, made coffee, did yoga on the porch in the early morning sunshine as the river rumbled by. I listened to the CD Macker had made me while I did Yoga...unorthodox but so incredibly enjoyable. The ride today was so enjoyable and beautiful I forgot I was riding to get somewhere and not just for a ride along the river, through the Rockies, passing colorful tent camps of kayakers. It was the perfect day. There is a saying in Arabic; Mara Assal O Mara Bassal, which means; sometimes honey and sometimes onions...well these last few days have been pure honey, honey, honey. We stopped at this little market/post office/library in Hillside and bought drinks and ice cream and made our sandwhiches out on the lawn under these huge trees that we think are cottonwood..but we aren't sure. There was a little stream babbling by...it was just perfect. We rode through Cotopaxi and as usual had a long conversation with a motorcycle guy....Matt is starting to get into the motorcycle thing too. I'm thinking he may want to go on that trip with me....he has also inexplicably started to say Aye Matey a lot...and is looking for an eye patch. Then we continued on to Westcliff where we had a really nice (by outside of California standards..which really means "not totally disgusting)dinner, got milk, yogert, bread, cheese, avocados, tomatoes, and fruit...and headed to the RV park about 2 miles out of town as all the hotels were booked solid (this is becoming a trend for us). It ended up being such a beautiful spot....on a big, grassy bluff above a river...overlooking a huge bank of Rocky Mountains...panoramic, with all the RV's behind us.
We keep hearing about a heat wave and a cold front and rainstorms in Kansas..and tornados...yikes.

I read your story in the Bee and have enjoyed your travel stories.

You may find some scattered T-storms over the next 10 days in the Garden City, Kansas area.

The Weather Channel on TV has a web site that I rely on:

weather.com.
type in city,State
(Do not need zipe code)

select #1.
Today's Temp with show on screen.

Click on 10 Day Forcast or Hour by Hour.

We have travelled around winter storms using this site and found it to be very accurate.

Hava a wonderful ride!

As of Sunday afternoon -

Monday has scattered Thunder Storms most of the day.

Tuesday is clear all day!

The Hour by Hour is the most accurate for daily time changes.

Enjoy!

Pueblo, CO area is clear on Monday 6 A.M. - 2 P.M. Then T-showers start.

You may want to ride and find a place to stay inside until Tuesday morning.

Garden City, Kansas area is clear untill noon on Monday. Clearing on Tuesday morning.

Stay dry and may the wind be at your back.

Thanks! That is very helpful. It seems like the storms usually come in the afternoon so we are planning on riding in the early mornings and then breaking in the middle of the day, and resuming in the evening when it may be drier.
But we will be checking the weather every chance we get.

Yes, The rains usually hit in the afternoons in the Rockies.

You will start to see a change in the flat lands of Colorado and Kansas now.

It is best to leave Pueblo on Monday, because a storm is coming in on Tuesday with up to 20 mph. winds from the north by noon. This looks to be the worst weather in Colorado/Kansas. So I hope you miss it. My concern is what got me to write. I went to Colorado Springs every year as a kid and remember these storms.

Garden City area is clear weather on Tuesday while Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are isolated T-storms.

It looks like most of Kansas will see isolated T-shower Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Some will be only a few hours in the afternoon and some will start in the afternoon and go through the night.

Clearing looks to start on Friday with Saturday, Sunday and Monday having clear skies in Kansas anyway.

On Weather.com, f you look at Hour by Hour it tells you the wind mph and direction the wind is coming from to the city you are looking at.

Hour by Hour also tells you 30% chance that = 1 hour either way. 40% chance = timing and chance of that weather is pretty good even in 2 days out in the forecast.

Have a wonderful adventure!

I love your stories.
