Leaving Ridgeway for Sapinero

I'm going to try to catch up here. We are actually in Pueblo and by a series of fortunate events I have a computer I can use until my fingers seize up.
If you will recall, Ridgeway was the town that had no hotel vacancies. I hadn't had a shower (and that includes a lake, pool, stream, sink...nothing!)in three days and we camped illegally at the reservoir. We left there on the morning of the 3rd (I think...my journal got wet in the hail storm on the top of Monarch pass,so it is a little murky)and rode to Montrose for second breakfast. I know you are all curious about the food thing. Usually we have tea and hot chocolate, cereal with milk (when we can get fresh milk) or oatmeal with raisens and brown sugar, fruit, and yogert. Usually the boys also have chocolate milk if we could buy it the evening before. Then we ride for about two hours and then stop for a bigger breakfast in some town...or just stop and have bananas and yogert and Cliff bars or something. We snack along the way on dried fruit, nuts, powerbar type things, etc. Lunch is usually carrots, sandwiches (PB&J, or cheese/avocado/tomatoe), fruit, yogert if we can get it, or vegi burgers when we can find them. The boys usually get ice cream around lunch time too. Then dinner is either at a restaurant or we cook up burritos, pasta, salad, fruit, stuff like that. Solomon is still loving french fries. I'll be happy if I never see another grilled chicken salad as long as I live.
Anyhow, we stopped in Montrose for second breakfast (Julie...this is for you), and Matt's bike busted a bolt on his gear rings....luckily there was a bike shop a half block away!! 50 miles from the next bike shop and 50 miles from the last..and he busts a bolt a half block from a bike shop. Matt has had 4 flat tires, a broken chain, a broken spoke, and a busted bolt! The guy at the bike shop, as you can imagine, was incredibly nice and fixed the bolt in no time and didn't even charge us a dime! We had originally thought we wouldn't make it to Sapinero because of this but we got right on the road. We were making good time and by 5pm we stopped for dinner in Cimmaron. They had some cabins by the river and we thought about stopping for the night. They also had showers (remember, 3 days...no shower)but we all sat down in the little market/cafe/tanning salon/Inn/gas station/taxidermy clinic and had a little pow wow. Yonah gave us all our options. We could stay in Cimmeron and get to bed early and have showers...but have a 74 mile day the next day with a big climb first thing..or we could continue on to Sapinero where the one hotel was now closed but where someone had told us about camping on the reservoir. We would get in late but would have no climbing the next day and only a 58 mile day. He wanted to continue on...being the Bisquit and all..and he convinced us likewise. So, we rode to the Curecanti National Recreation Area. It was about 9pm and dark when we finally rode in but we found a spot, made snacks, got the boys to bed and then I went to take a shower.....only to find that it took 8 quarters for 5 min. of water. Between us, we had only 6 quarters. So, I took a dollar bill to the only RV that seemed awake and they changed my dollar. I was so efficient in that shower..I even got my legs shaved. The next day was the 4th and we headed out for Sargents, CO. Our first town with any kind of services was Gunnison. I was really looking forward to going to the library and getting on the internet and going to the post office to send the pictures...but of course everything was closed for the 4th. But....we did find THE BEST bike shop in the entire world. Even better than the beloved Davis bike shops. These guys were so great. Not only did they fix up and check out all the bikes, and give us all kinds of great tips, and let me use the computer for two hours while Matt took the boys to the bookstore and for milkshakes..but they were soooo very cute as well. If anyone is ever in Gunnison, you have to check out the Tomichi Cycles bike shop. As we left town there was a big bike parade, complete with Red, White, and Blue bunting, Fire and Police escort...and music. We joined right in and then continued on out of town. Which reminds me...we have yet to come across a single Rotary Club pancake breakfast, or Kiwanis Smorgesbord!!!! I was thinking we would be eating at these kind of things every day..but nary a one so far. Maybe in Kansas.
