Teach Your Children Well

One of the things I always think about is what to teach my kids about life and the world. This trip has been amazing in the number of opportunities in which to impart wisdom and knowledge to them. Talk about a captive audience. At least Yonah can ride away from Solomon and me. Today we passed George Washington Carver's homestead and we spoke about peanut butter and being inquisitive. Last night we watched Robert Kennedy Jr. debate this right wing newsman Glenn Beck about global warming. Kennedy got whipped and Yonah and I spoke about the fine points of debating. But now I am going to give you verbatim the one thing I've taught the boys that I know will stick. It is a song. It happens to be the one thing that I can honestly say I learned during my four years at UC Berkeley. They sang it in a round as we rode into town.
Y - Oh they had a little party down in Newport...
S - There was Harry, there was Mary, there was Grace.
Y - Oh they had a little party down in Newport...
S - and they had to carry Harry from the place.
Y - Oh they had to carry Harry to the ferry...
S - Oh they had to carry Harry to the shore...
Y - And the reason that they had to carry Harry to the ferry...
S - Was that Harry couldn't carry any more.
Y - For California.
S - For California.
Y - We'll win the game tonight or we'll know the reason why.
S - For California!
Y - For California!
S - We'll win the game tonight or we'll know the reason why (note: I forgot this line.)
Y - And when the game is over we will drink a case or two...
S - And drink to California til we wallow in our shoes.
Y - So drink tra-la-la
S - Drink tra -la-la
Y - Drink!
S- Drank!
Y - Drunk last night
S - Drunk the night before.
Y - Gonna get drunk like I never got before.
S - Because when I'm drunk I'm as happy as can be
Y - Cause I am a member of the souse family

and so on.

By the way, I haven't had a decent beer since Utah when Ken and I had some Polygamy Ale. (no joke)

So its come to that. Teaching your
kids a good old drinking tune..

I guess they don't have alot of mini breweries in some part of this
country. What a pity..Polygamy beer. Really? Maybe now that you are in Kansas you can find some good corn ethanol to spirit you on your way. Yvette
