I only have 5 min. but I just wanted to let you all know that we are all doing well but haven't been anywhere close to the internet until today. We ended up having to spend another night in a crappy, overpriced hotel in Pittsburg. The rebuilding of Yonah's tire took hours longer than we expected. There was no sense of urgency going on in that bike shop at all. The only room we could get had one little bed that Matt and I shared, the boys slept on their insulite pads on the floor. It was Shabbat, I had a stomach ache, Matt took the boys out to dinner and bowling while I groaned in the room, it was the worst Shabbat ever. We lost a day of riding and we were bummed about that. But, the silver lining was that we got up at 5am and rode our second century of the week the next day. 103 miles to Fair Grove, MO!
We were so wrong about Missouri. I'll tell you all about it later but the drivers are fine, the dogs have since been trained and all you have to do is blow the whistle and they back off. To say that Missouri has lots of hills is like saying that Kansas has lots of corn. It is like ribbon candy! I've never done anything like this. Going up I'm going about 2.9 mph max, going down is about 35mph!
We have slept in some of the most miserable places I've ever camped in...behind a gas station, in this ATV garbage dump type campground...albeit on a nice river...more on all this later. I gotta go. I'll fill you in on all the details!
Love,
Djina

Missouri sounds lovely... and so hilly... Not what I'd expect after your burley crossing of the Rockies, et. al. Love the image of you creeeeeping uphill at 2mph, then bombing down at 35. I recall towing the trailer up a "hill" in Switz., and I was moving so slowly that my bike computer said I wasn't moving! I guess the wheel was turning so painfully slow, that the computer sensor got tired of waiting for that little magnetic thingie on the spokes to finally come around again... It figured I'd stopped. The lowest reading on my computer was 2.5 kilom.per hour, so I guess I was moving at about 1 mph or 1.5 mph? There was snow on the pass, and Some Swiss guy skiied down the hill, took off his skis, and walked uphill on the paved road, passing me in the process clunking along in his massive ski boots.
I imagine things will be flatter soon??? Love to you all, Paulo RS
