We crossed the Mississippi river!!!! We (well, I anyway) sang those songs I learned at Camp, like "if you miss me in the Mississippi river..." and "the mississippi river, is muddy and wide...want my freedom...on the other side....". It was so much fun.
(I am writing this in a McDonald's in Kentucky and in the booth next to me is a guy eating, sitting with a woman who is also eating, and the guy is talking on his phone via one of those ear things, to the mother his two children, talking about everything from a paternity suit, how she broke his nose, what happened to the ring he spent $500 on?, assuring her that he only wants to have children with her...even though she is "a fucking, psycho", and trying to verify what exactly she told his mom about what he was doing about something I can't quiet figure out...he is also trying to assure her that he is only trying to make her happy")
Some of you have inquired about bike maladies, so here it is:
Flat tires: Matt 5 or 6 mostly back tire, Djina 4, Yonah 2
Chains: Matt, I broken which he fixed on the road and then replaced at the next bike shop
Yonah, chain replaced at bike shop
Spokes: Yonah 4 broken, wheel rebuilt
Djina, back wheel trued and ball-bearings tightened
Pedals: Djina L pedal broken and replaced with an old one of Ken's that he brought, Matt, L pedal broken and both replaced with new ones from the bikeshop
Cleats: Djina, replaced set at bike shop in Telluride
Bike Gloves: Djina, Matt, Solomon-replaced with new ones from bike shop
Bolt holding Cassette (gears) together: Matt-sheared bolt and replaced with new one at bike shop.
So far that is it but the Tandem needs some work at the next bike shop.
I'll keep you updated.
(You will never hear me say it but, Matt would have been much better off just following my advice and buying the high-end CoMotion tandem and then selling it when we got back, instead of getting the Beast off e-bay for less money but more grief)

Just a quick note to Linda (Bee reader): thanks a lot for the explanation. This is the first blog I ever followed, and so I'm learning as I go. My mistake was in not going back in time to look at the new comments that might have been left there.
Djina, I hope there is a big party planned to welcome you back to Davis. Please let us know the details of when you plan to be back. You deserve plenty of real good, healthy, home cooked meals to make up for all the abuse you have suffered. It is easy for us to forget all the sacrifices you guys have made on this trip.
Linda, I hope we get to meet you soon, in celebrating the return of the Biers-Ariel family to Davis.
Finally, Djina, Congratulations on crossing the Mississippi, that is truly amazing!!
Love
Juana
