June 25th Farmington Library..just another quick stop

The Ozarks are amazing. The hills, the flowers, the hills...the ramshackle houses with about 5 confederate flags, the dogs racing out to protect their dilapidated trailer homes as you whizz by at 35 mph....there were so many pictures I didn't take because I didn't want to offend anyone by, for instance, taking pictures of their falling down houses with all their worldly goods piled up on the porch and overflowing into the yard, to mingle with all the old cars and confederate flags...but then Ken (who has some street cred, having lived in a trailer park himself) assured me that they are "proud of all that stuff! They only put out the good stuff...why keep all the good stuff inside where no one could see it?" So, I've gotten bolder. Just today I passed a guy totally layed out in some kind of lounge chair, in front of a boarded up gas station, chewin' tobaccy, and selling watermelons and cantelope. He had his feet up on the gas pump and just smiled, displaying all six of his evenly spaced teeth, when I asked if I could take his picture. I was all worried that he would think "oh man, here comes Diane Arbus to take my picture so that all o' her high-end Bay Area friends can dis me". But he was so happy to have his picture taken. I came to realize that he was probably thinking "Man, this is what happens when you get yourself a job....chicks be stoppin' they bikes to take your picture, Sheet!"
I have about 50 more stories about the Ozarks to write to you but Matt wants a turn so I'll do it later.
Love,
Djina

Well, Djina, you don’t have to go all the way to the Ozarks to see that kind of thing. Last spring, I was out walking in those projects in West Davis, called something like a Village, out where there are all those unseasworthy, disassembled boats and half solar panels and stuff all in the streets and there was this family with all their stuff out in the yard – rugs, sofas, armchairs, coffee tables – and it was like a party, they were drinking beer out of what looking like an old wheelbarrow or something. I even took pictures of it and they were proud, too. So, I guess the Ozarks and Davis are a lot alike, that’s all I’m saying.

Cheers - Ken

You're funny! In California we call that a Garden Party!!!! The ice and drinks in the wheelbarrow is called a "feature".
