I can't remember where I was but the pedicure was perfect. Not as good as Davis Nails but perfect for Utah. One must take good care of one's feet when biking across the country. So, the ride to Milford. Matt sort of spelled it out already but I'll elaborate. We left Baker at 6:30am and within 9 miles were getting slammed by 25 mph head winds. It really slowed us down. Matt had "fixed" the tire in the morning before we left. As we left Nevada we passed this river that I forget the name of, something like Paissichie. It was so beautiful and the first body of water we had seen for days and days. As we were riding past we saw a river otter. Solomon ran down to the rivers edge and got close enough to see his "little face and his flippers". We saw a lot of snakes (most of them dead...run over by cars), Prairie Dogs, raptors, more nests of ravens, more dead animals like rabbits and deer than I have ever seen before. But it was so hot and hard going that we ran through half our water by the time we were only 20 miles out. We also had two 7,000 plus ft. passes to cross. Matt's back tire kept going flat, we had to flag down cars to get water, etc. etc. It was absolutely grueling. I have never seen Matt closer to tears. If it had just been me and him it wouldn't have been so bad but to be in a situation like that with your two young children was very difficult. We both were thinking "Man, are we going to be able to do this thing?" But, we made it to Milford finally and by 10pm were eating in yet another greasy diner, where I have learned to be very specific about how I want things served...i.e dressing on the side, hold the mayonaise on the french fries, no butter flavored oil painted on the toast, NO GRAVY on anything! By 11pm we were taking showers and by midnight the boys were asleep. Next day would be shorter but just as difficult...but I didn't know that when I went to sleep.
We woke the boys up early and had a quick breakfast and while I was packing up I noticed all was quiet suddenly. I turned around and they had both fallen asleep on the beds of the lodge we had slept in. (I'll try to post the pictures)
Nope, not now, can't do it.
