I've been waking up about an hour before I get the boys up so I can make myself some tea and do some Yoga. Thank goodness for Yoga...savin' my life once again. My butt was kicked by the last pass of the day today, Sacramento Pass. It ended up being a 60 mile day. Matt got a flat about 7 miles from Baker and it took about an hour to fix and then went flat again when we got to Baker. So we got in very late. Luckily we found an amazing restaurant. It was like something out of Berkeley, CA. There was great art, deliicous food, home baked, whole grain breads and desserts, sculpture, real vegetables, buckwheat soba noodles, etc. It is called the Lectrolux Cafe!!! There were a bunch of locals in there having dessert and coffee and it they were all from Berkeley and Santa Fe and places like that. Most of them were these sort of eccentric artists and writers. It was a cool, hippy enclave in the desert....so unexpected. The highlight of the day was riding with the Elk. We have seen Elk, Antelope, and Deer. These three Elk were running just ahead of us but at almost the same speed. It was so cool. We were going downhill and just rode with them for about a mile and then they crossed the road ahead of us and headed up into the canyon. Solomon was just beside himself with joy. Tomorrow is a LONG day. 83 miles to Milford....no water or anything between Baker and Milford. I'm going to be hauling about 4 gallons of water. We are going to leave early to beat some of the heat.

Pat and I look forward to your posts. What a great adventure. We wish we could mail you water but in lieu of that we wish you a cool breeze and a sunny sky. Paul Hart our next door neighbor did a cross country bike ride- he says you should put liners in your tires. When trucks blow out their tires they shower the road with tiny wires that cause flats. We are holding up in OB despite your abscence. Barbara turned us down with have offered Marcy the position.
