Monday August 6th Elkhorn,KY->Rosedale, VA

We are now in our last state. We only have about 400 miles to go. Looking back I can say unequivocally, that Colorado had the nastiest, most dangerous drivers of all (except Beulah-The Terror of the East...more on her later).
The coal trucks drive fast and will kill you if you get in their way, but you can hear them coming and we just get out of their way and pull over. It made for a long day and it is hard to unclip when you are only going 2mph. It is also hard to get going again..but it is better than getting hit.
The hills were some of the hardest of our trip so far....steep and long. The downhills are great though. The scenery is breathtaking. We rode along this mucky river full of old tires and garbage but out of it kept flying huge Blue Herons. Today was also a two turtle rescue day, bringing our Total Turtles Saved to 6.
We are like a little turtle ministry. Speaking of which, we are sleeping in our 3rd church this trip. A Methodist church this time. Bathrooms, kitchen, soft carpet, shelter..no shower though so we did the hose shower thing on the front lawn in our bathing suits, which worked jess' fiiine. Tomorrow some more tough climbing but a short mileage day to Damascus. My bike cyclometer crashed and needs to be replaced.
I saw a sign the other day that said "Had enough? Vote Democrat"...in Kentucky no less.
OK, now I really have to go.
Love,
Djina
