We have now ridden over 2,000 miles. Yonah is really suffering with the humidity. He doesn't complain but you can just see it. Morale is sinking today. We need a day off. We decided to take advantage of the good weather and the SSW wind and just go the whole 100 miles to Chanute, and our rest day, instead of doing it in two days.
Everyone was up for it. It was long, hot as hell, humid as all get out...but we did it! Arrived in Chanute at 8pm and got the one last room in the last unoccupied hotel!
Showered and rode the the closest Pizza Hut (which is high end for us, due to the great salad bar and non-meat alternatives). Here are our staples: Pizza Hut, Gatorade, Doritos.
Tomorrow is our rest day. We will do laundry, sleep in, swim in the pool, look up stuff on the internet about the rest of our route, try to find fuel, and take our warm clothes to the post office to send home.
More pictures coming!
Love,
Djina

I can't believe you are really in Chanute..It was 1965 when last I was there..we had to take a plane to Kansas City (probably) and then we took a private plane to chanute because there weren't any other connections short of riding bikes and we had a lot of camera equipment and stuff..and we shot a coca cola commerical there..it was about a young wife with a husband that owned a lumber yard and we followed her through her day...like a docu-drama...and of course she had a coke often because things went better with coke after coke after coke..YES I always joked about the fact that most people got to go to exotic places for shoots..I got to go to Chanute..When I was there we were driving behind a house that was moving..that was the first time I saw a house move..on the back of a trailer. Hope this stop refreshes you.. 2000 miles..that's incredible..stay tuff. Love to you all. Aunt YV
A wet handkerchief sitting on the head under the helmet or at the back of the neck might bring some relief from the humidity/heat. Every body is different, so you never know.
